June 5, 2017
The June 2017 meeting was held at the Oregon Air and Space Museum. President Ron Parker opened the meeting with 15 members (2 of them new) present.
The minutes were approved.
Wayne Eckertson provided a recap EAA National tour stop of the B-17 Aluminum Overcast on 4-7 May. All shifts were covered through Chapters 1457, 31, and 1524. A total of 88 flights were sold along with Ground Tours and over $3500 in merchandise. After expenses and profit sharing with the other chapters who volunteered, the net for Chapter 1457 was just over $2500. Thanks to Wayne and all those who helped make this another successful venture.
Several members who flew (yes, not just rode but flew) the B-17 on its re-positioning to Olympia provided comments on their “experience of a lifetime” and made all others jealous.
Three planes participated in the fly-out to McMinnville. Wayne had perhaps the biggest adventure with a flat tire at KMMV. Glad he got assistance there and everyone made it home safe. An upcoming trip may be a camping trip to Orcas Island in conjunction with their fly-in in August.
Ron queried if anyone had attempted BasicMed but it sounds like he’ll be the first.
The evening’s speaker was Gryphon McArthur from LebanAir, who flew in a Tecnam P2002 LSA for display. Gryphon also provided a slideshow with the history of the Tecnam brand and info on use of a Tecnam P2006T fuselage for testing as a NASA X-57.
Paul Ehrhardt leads the Benton County SkySAR group. SkySAR is one of six, all-volunteer groups that support the Benton County Sheriff; SkySAR being planes and pilots for aerial searching. Paul made a pitch for pilots to become involved in air search operations with the Lane County Sheriff. Their point of contact is Jim Hunt.
Word from Airport Admin is the annual Run on the Runway will not be held this year as one runway will be under repair. Members wishing to support Young Eagles were reminded of the opportunity to support the Creswell Chapter 31 YE event on 4 July.
The Chapter video was shown with features on the Swearinger SX300, Restoration on a Berlin Express B-25, and demonstration on cutting oil filters for inspection.
The won’t be a July meeting with the next one in August (enjoy the July 4th weekend!)
